Description

Name: Eira piscator
Type: Mammal
Species: Eira
Discovery: With Island
Diet: Piscavore
Color: Red brown fur with white spots and tan underbelly
Habitat: Aquatic
Home: All around Monster Island
Population: Large

The second only known species from the Eira family the only other being the Tayra from Central America, these mid sized piscivorious mammals are native to Monster island's vast river systems and ponds and are one of the few predators to spread throughout all the tropic and subtropic areas of monster island despite the fact it's 3-4 times larger than Madagascar.

The easily noticeable trait this species possesses is their over sized clawed hands which are used when catching fish. The Eira will hook their feet to a branch right above the water and hold their hands out casting a shadow, similar to many wading birds, then when a fish approach, the weasel will wrap its hands around the fish and pull it out of the water at lightning speeds. Sometimes using the ends of their long tails as worm bait.

Of course this not always a safe tactic as creatures such as caiman and sharks could easily leap and grab these creatures from the branch. When the larger predators such as these are around, the Eira Piscator will simply avoid the water edge, instead stealing fish and over pray from birds nearby, using their large hands to make themselves appear bigger, standing on their back legs and holding their paws against their legs.

Eira Piscator breeding is all year round, females can enter estrus for 3-20 days many times out of the year and after being mated they have a gestation period for around 60 days than will give birth to 1-3 young which she cares for alone.
